Nikola Jokić is not someone who cares much about individual statistics, but it’s simply unbelievable how the referees stole a triple-double from him. In the loss to San Antonio (139–136), he had 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists, but the rebound that was initially recorded as his 10th was erased due to an unbelievable decision by the referees.
With 34 seconds left in the game, Jokić grabbed the ball after De’Aaron Fox missed a free throw. At that moment, Harrison Barnes was also fighting for the ball and fouled the Serbian star, who already had clear possession. The referees called a foul and recorded that the foul occurred before Nikola had possession of the ball.
I didnt bet on Nikola Jokic to have 10 rebounds or a Triple Double today, but had some homies on him. This is 100% his 10th rebound that was stat corrected back to 9 rebounds. Full possession of the ball before the foul was called. Even the announcers said that was his 10th… pic.twitter.com/iHePecUkpl

In other words, it was recorded as a “team rebound,” not a Jokić rebound, which meant that the grabbed ball did not count toward a new triple-double. Fans began sharing the clip on social media, and no one can understand the officials’ decision.
Neither Jokić nor Denver will make much of a fuss about this, mostly because it isn’t a priority for Nikola, but the referees’ decision is truly odd. It remains to be seen whether NBA officials will perhaps overturn the call after reviewing the footage.
