This 98th Academy Awards ceremony at the Hollywood Dolby Theatre gathered Hollywood stars dressed in creations by the most famous designers, and it seems that the American Academy jury also awarded prizes according to some similar criterion, rewarding the flashiest, most famous, and most hyped!

Returning host Conan O’Brien delivered his opening jokes before actors, directors, and their collaborators began receiving recognition for the films that moved us this year.

Let’s start with the one who deserved the gold-plated statue “as big as a house,” and that is Sean Penn for an outstanding supporting role in the film „One Battle After Another“ with which, to be painfully honest, he overshadowed both the lead actor and everyone else around him.

The film „Sinners“ led the evening with 16 nominations, including the one for Best Picture, but in the end it won “only” 3, one of which went to Michael B. Jordan, who received the award in a race with the star of the film „Marty Supreme“, Timothée Chalamet, as well as Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”) and Ethan Hawke (“Blue Moon”).

The award in the Best Actress category was won by Jessie Buckley („Hamnet“) in competition with Kate Hudson (“Song Sung Blue”) and Emma Stone (“Bugonia”).

The best director, according to the jury, is Paul Thomas Anderson (“One Battle After Another”), although many would not agree with that. The directors of the films „Hamnet” and “Sentimental Value”, who, it seems, deserved to celebrate more, remained without awards.

Consolation for the excellent Norwegian film „Sentimental Value“ arrived in the form of an Oscar for Best International Feature Film, while the one for Best Original Screenplay was declared to be the film „Sinners“.

The film „One Battle After Another“ entered the night with 13 nominations and great chances. After two hours of the program, the film collected three awards, including the one for Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn), Adapted Screenplay, and Casting, and then it also received the main one, for Best Picture.

It seems that so much pomp was created around this film, among other things, due to the large amount of star dust and the great actors who participated in it (Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro).

During the Oscar ceremony, large groups of protesters gathered near the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, carrying banners with the messages „Stop the war against Iran“. But a similar atmosphere did not prevail in the hall itself.

Except for the fact that rare actors wore red pins on their clothes as a form of protest due to the events in Gaza and Iran, the big actors, especially those who received awards, remained silent. Obviously, roles in future projects of large film studios (we know who runs them) are more important to them than world peace.

The only one who had the courage to step forward is the Spanish actor Javier Bardem, who came out on stage wearing the same anti-war badge he wore in 2003 during the war in Iraq. He shouted:

-No to war! Free Palestine!

In his statements, Bardem sharply condemned the airstrikes on civilian targets in Iran and called on the international community to reconsider its support for military operations.

Of the other winners, only the directors of the documentary film „Mr. Nobody Against Putin“, Pavel Talankin and David Borenstein, called for peace and an end to the conflict.
