A small flame of hope was flickering that the report from the USA could keep Bogdan Bogdanović in the status of a player who can play at the EuroBasket, but everyone more or less knew and feared that everything would end up like this… The captain of Serbia will not be able to continue the EuroBasket in Riga, because a muscle rupture was confirmed after a definitive analysis from across the Atlantic.
That Bogdanović’s condition was not good could be sensed from the very beginning, during the match with Portugal. A minute and a half before the end of the half, while trying to finish an attack, the captain landed awkwardly because he was in strong contact with Diogo Gameiro. A few seconds later, he grabbed the painful spot and tried to stretch his hamstring by bending forward, but it was no use… He went to the bench, sat down and put his palms on his head, which was the first sign that the situation was bad.
The team’s doctor, Dr. Dragan Radovanović, confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Bogdanović had suffered a hamstring injury, but that it was necessary to do an additional diagnosis and prognosis in order to determine the degree of the injury and the next steps. The opinion of the doctors arrived from the USA and Bogdanović will not be able to help his teammates in the rest of the competition.
He watched the match against Latvia from the team hotel, which was confirmed by Svetislav Pešić at the press conference after the 84:80 victory. It remains to be seen what the next steps are for the experienced shooter, while in his absence the captain’s duty was taken over by Stefan Jović.
Serbia will play its next match on Monday at 8:15 PM CET, and the opponent is the Czech Republic.
