Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Stević of the Traffic Police Directorate stated this morning that the police have established all the necessary facts required for the further course of the prosecutorial investigation regarding the serious traffic accident that occurred near Sremska Mitrovica, emphasizing that improper speed is presumed to be the cause of the crash.
Three people died in the traffic accident near Sremska Mitrovica.
“The police detention of the driver expires today at 11:00 AM, and he will be brought before the prosecutor. We assume his detention will be extended,” said Dejan Stević.
“We determined on the tachograph a movement speed of an unbelievable 120 kilometers per hour for a vehicle of this size. The driver was transporting 83 passengers. A great lack of responsibility at this moment… Physics simply could not keep the vehicle on the road at this speed,” Stević said.
He added that an extraordinary technical inspection of the overturned bus was carried out on September 15 of this year, and that the driver had a medical examination at the end of 2024.
On this stretch of road, traffic police officers have recorded more than 60 offenses due to improper speeding since its recent reopening after reconstruction.
During the overturning of the bus, which was transporting employees of the company “Healthcare,” on the Sremska Mitrovica – Jarak road on Friday around 2:45 PM, three people were killed and around 80 were injured.

The company “Healthcare” issued a statement announcing that they have declared three days of mourning.
The driver of the overturned bus was detained after the traffic accident.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced that over 60 irregularities in the carrier company’s operations were identified during an inspection.
A doctor from the Emergency Services described how the rescue of people from the overturned bus proceeded, recounting that some were moaning, some were lying down, and two were deceased.
