Videos and photos of young Iranian women setting fire to portraits of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with cigarettes are spreading on social media.

With this act of disobedience and defiance, the female demonstrators are sending a clear message – they are not afraid of repression and are demanding change in the country, even though Iranian law strictly punishes public criticism or challenging the authority of Khamenei.

Women and girls are also paying tribute to Mahsa Amini and demanding justice for her death. Mahsa’s killing by Iran’s morality police sparked the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, which is fighting against impunity in Iran.

The posts are being widely shared across social networks, and one of them reads:

– Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the bravest people in the world.
