Carriers from Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will block the freight terminals of border crossings toward Schengen countries at noon today, due to problems with the new system of entry and exit from the European Union and the rule according to which a 90-day stay in the Schengen area within 180 days applies to professional drivers.

Turkish drivers have also announced support for the carriers from Serbia, Montenegro, and BiH, and they will stand in line with drivers from the Western Balkans in the countries where they find themselves.

The protest will begin at the exit terminals from the Western Balkan countries, and at midnight at the entry terminals, and will last until the conditions are met, the carriers’ associations announced.

The carriers proposed that a meeting be scheduled where experts and those responsible from the European Commission would participate, in order to set a common goal and find a solution, because the full implementation of the new system begins on April 10.

They propose that, until a solution is found, professional drivers be treated as cross-border workers.
