Following the arrest of former basketball national team player and activist Vladimir Štimac, his wife Aleksandra spoke out, stating that Štimac was arrested based on an indictment written on Andrić’s Wreath.

“The police or whoever arrested my husband Vladimir Štimac based on an indictment written on Andrić’s Wreath, and read on Informer. The wounded beast bites itself from pain. My husband is the best man on planet Earth and every step he takes is driven by the need to change everything for the better. You will all answer together, trust my word,” Aleksandra Štimac wrote on her account on the social network X.

The wife of the celebrated basketball player called on citizens to attend a support rally for her husband due to his arrest.

“Come today in front of the November 29 Police Station, Bulevar despota Stefana 107 Street at 2 PM, just as Vlada came and would come for each of you. So that he hears us and knows that he IS NOT ALONE and that together we demand his immediate release! Vlada was arrested on inaccurate charges, by the direct order of Aleksandar Vučić, and must be immediately released,” Aleksandra Štimac wrote on the social network X.

Vladimir Štimac, let us recall, was arrested last night on charges that, during the protest in front of the Serbian Parliament, he “incited violence in front of the Serbian Parliament with the intention of violently overthrowing the legitimate representatives of the government.”

Vladimir Štimac’s lawyer: This is retaliation and a performance by Vučić

“Vladimir Štimac was arrested, not because of the fact that he committed a crime, but because of the wish of one person, and that is Aleksandar Vučić,” Nikola Lakić, Štimac’s lawyer, tells Danas.

Štimac is currently in the MUP premises in 29. novembar Street and has been detained for up to 48 hours.

Lakić adds that Štimac, not only did not commit the criminal offense he is charged with, which is calling for a violent change of the constitutional order, but in what he said there are no elements of any criminal offense that the prosecution pursues ex officio.

“This is retaliation and a performance directed by Aleksandar Vučić with the aim of intimidating all citizens of Serbia who have been seeking justice for a year and who are fighting against the organized criminal group in power. This is a message to all citizens – if we arrested a former basketball national team player, we can arrest everyone else. In normal countries, in such cases, there would not even be an arrest, and even if such a mistake happened, the court would urgently revoke the detention and release the suspect to defend himself while free, in Vučić’s Serbia no one knows what will happen, because we are all witnesses that Aleksandar Vučić’s political pressure is enormous and that he can easily influence judicial institutions,” Lakić believes.

He adds that the only hope remains that some pre-trial judge will act in accordance with the law, accept the appeal they have filed, and release Štimac.

“Anything else would be a decision that is the result of political pressure, not law,” Lakić concludes.
