Repeated early elections for President of Republika Srpska are being held in Republika Srpska at 136 polling stations in 17 cities and municipalities. Around 85,000 voters have the right to vote. At the Palace of the Republic in Banja Luka, it will be either Siniša Karan, the candidate of the ruling parties, or opposition candidate Branko Blanuša.
By a decision of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH), the elections are being repeated at certain polling stations in Prijedor, Laktaši, Banja Luka, Doboj, Stanari, Lopare, Ugljevik, Osmaci, Zvornik, Vlasenica, Bratunac, Nevesinje, Gacko, Rudo, Bileća, Milići, and Brčko.
Early presidential elections in Republika Srpska were held on November 23, and according to announced but unconfirmed election results of the CEC BiH, the SNSD candidate and candidate of the ruling coalition parties, Siniša Karan, had an advantage of more than 9,500 votes over the SDS and opposition candidate Branko Blanuša.
Dissatisfied with this result, opposition parties filed a series of objections over alleged irregularities in the elections, which the CEC BiH accepted and decided that early elections would be repeated at some polling stations.
In the meantime, opposition presidential candidate Blanuša was elected president of the SDS.
As reported by RTRS, according to the results of the initially held elections, Siniša Karan’s advantage was 9,577 votes, and after votes from disputed polling stations—where Karan received 15,822 votes more than Blanuša—were excluded, a change in results occurred, so the SDS candidate now has 6,245 votes more, and Karan in the repeated elections has the task of making up that advantage.
The implementation of the partial repetition of the early elections will be monitored by more than 4,000 observers, and the first preliminary results are expected by midnight.
The confirmed results, as announced, will be published within seven days.
