SERIOUS INCIDENT IN NOVI SAD: Students attacked with bats at night, girl seriously injured!

Around 3 a.m. last night, students in Novi Sad were physically attacked, N1 reports.

“One girl was seriously injured and is currently in the Clinical Center of Vojvodina. Her jaw is dislocated, and she has injuries all over her body. Several other students sustained minor injuries,” reads a statement from the students provided to N1.

The students explained that four men with baseball bats chased a group of students who were placing stickers and painting stencils reading “Three Months, Three Bridges,” according to the statement.

Attackers Allegedly Emerged from SNS Premises, Police Remain Silent

The attack occurred, students claim, when one of their female and male colleagues from the Faculty of Medicine placed a sticker—a call to protest on February 1 in Novi Sad—on a trash can in front of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) premises. At that moment, two unknown men with short haircuts and strong builds exited the SNS office and immediately attacked the young man, the students explained.

“They grabbed him by the collar and started choking him. The girl managed to record it on her phone, but the unknown individuals took her phone and deleted the footage. The medical students managed to break free and run away, but the attackers returned to the SNS premises briefly before coming back out to chase them, first on foot and then in a Chevrolet vehicle, nearly hitting two students,” the students described.

According to the attacked students, the same two men, along with two others armed with baseball bats, assaulted another group of students near the “Petefi Šandor” elementary school. During this attack, one female student sustained severe injuries after being kicked and struck with bats. Other students managed to escape with minor injuries, they claimed.

“We strongly condemn this attack and are appalled by the state of our society, where such an incident is even possible. We demand that those responsible for attacking the students be identified as soon as possible and that legal actions are taken against them,” the students said in their statement.

“We appeal to all relevant institutions to act swiftly and begin doing their jobs. We’ve had enough blood!” the students concluded in the statement sent to N1.
