Serbian basketball veterans have won the gold medal at the FIBA Basketball World Cup for players over 50, held in Switzerland. The Serbian national team achieved a perfect record of five victories, defeating Italy 72:58 in the final match.
Key Players and Tournament Performance
The most efficient player in the final was Ilija Jović, father of national team player Nikola Jović and a member of the Crvena zvezda Basketball Club Management Board. He scored 25 points, including five three-pointers. Alongside him, Miloš Drobnjak added 15 points, and Zoran Stojnović contributed 11. En route to the final, Serbia defeated Greece (65:53), Poland (64:47), and Brazil (74:67).
The Serbian M50+ team consisted of: Zoran Maksimović, Miloš Drobnjak, Lazar Radulović, Ivan Đaković, Zoran Stojnović, Vladimir Sarajlić, Ilija Jović, Aleksandar Radenković, Dragan Petrović, and Dejan Kijanović. The team’s most efficient player throughout the tournament was Radenković, averaging 17.8 points per game.
The championship was played in the Swiss cities of Bellinzona, Locarno, and Lugano, and was organized as part of the FIMBA veterans’ competition. Another Serbian team, Sirmium Gladiators, was defeated in their first match by Costa Rica (45:68).
