On the eve of the Indian Wells masters, Hamad Međedović arrived at his base in Spain before continuing the season in the United States of America. He trained for about ten days, and then came – a cold shower.
The agency that was supposed to take care of Međedović’s visa for the USA made an oversight, because of which Hamad was left without a visa and – without participation in two masters.
“I wasn’t indifferent for the first few days, after that I was OK. It is what it is, force majeure,” Međedović tells Sport klub.
The man from Pazar then rested for a week, and then started another two weeks of training on clay.
“Classic, hard work, not on any specific details,” points out Međedović.
Who knows, maybe all this will be a blessing in disguise. He will start the clay season at the 125k tournament in Naples (March 23-29), and after that come Marrakech, Monte Carlo, and other tournaments in order, concluding with Roland Garros, which starts on May 25.
“Points must be chased for what wasn’t played,” states the 22-year-old.
Since the beginning of the season, Međedović reached the second round of Auckland from the qualifiers and offered strong resistance to future champion Jakub Menšík, while at the Australian Open in the second round, he lost in four sets to Alex de Minaur.
A loss at the start to Wawrinka in Montpellier followed, and then from the qualifiers in Rotterdam, he won three matches and lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Currently, Hamad is 115th in the world; it is time for a new surge.
