Turin police have arrested Milan Uskoković (62), a Serbian national accused of murdering Momčilo Bakal (45), a Bosnian businessman residing in Italy.
Bakal vanished without a trace in July 2016. Not even his car could be found. From the very beginning, his family was convinced he had been murdered, but the investigation conducted nine years ago yielded no concrete results.
The case remained unsolved, becoming one of many mysteries in Italy’s Piedmont region. A turning point in the investigation occurred in the summer of 2024 when, after years of unsuccessful searches, Bakal’s body was found on an isolated plot in Villareto, not far from his workplace and home. Careful excavation operations carried out by the Carabinieri enabled them to locate the remains, hidden for years in a hard-to-reach area. With the help of advanced technologies and cross-referencing with a DNA database for other crimes, they confirmed the victim’s identity and provided new leads for the continuation of the investigation, Italian media report.
Sedation and Financial Motive Revealed
Analysis of Bakal’s remains revealed a gruesome truth and led to the suspect. It was discovered that the businessman did not die of natural causes but was first sedated. According to the investigators’ reconstruction, Uskoković, already known to law enforcement, administered lethal doses of drugs to the victim, including zolpidem, a substance that causes deep sedation.
After the murder, the suspect allegedly hid the body by burying it on the Villareto property and stole Bakal’s car to mislead police into believing Bakal had left voluntarily. The motive for the crime, it turned out, was related to financial and personal disputes between the two men. These disagreements, over time, led Uskoković to coldly murder Bakal.
