Serbia’s Davis Cup team was defeated by Chile after just three matches, as our rivals won two singles and one doubles match.
On the first day of competition, Dušan Lajović and Ognjen Milić were defeated. Milić put in a very solid performance against Alejandro Tabilo but failed to pull off a miracle after three sets.
At the start of the second competition day, the doubles match was played, with brothers Ivan and Matej Sabanov representing Serbia.
After one hour and ten minutes of play, they were defeated by Nicolás Jarry and Barrios Vera 2–0, by sets of 6:4, 6:4.
The Serbian Davis Cup team thus lost in the first round of the World Group qualifiers and now awaits the draw for the so-called World Group I, as well as the September duel for a return to the World Group qualifiers for the F8 (final tournament) of the Davis Cup.
The Serbian national team, which besides the greatest tennis player of all time Novak Djokovic also has several regular top-100 players, is now in the company of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia, Luxembourg and Mexico, Morocco and Ukraine, Ecuador and Romania…
If it is any consolation, against Chile coach Viktor Troicki did not have Novak Djokovic, Miomir Kecmanović, Laslo Đere and Hamad Međedović at his disposal, but this is yet another failure.
