Dragan Ristić from Đakovica has been acquitted in the court in Priština of charges that, together with other members of Serbian police forces, he participated in killings, abuse, destruction of property, and the expulsion of the Albanian population on May 10, 1999, in Đakovica.

The acquittal of Dragan Ristić means that his detention measure is lifted today.

During the court proceedings, the defense of Dragan Ristić pointed out that there had been a case of mistaken identity and that he was not the person who committed the crimes against Albanians described by witnesses.

Dragan Ristić, aged 77, was arrested on February 25 last year at the Jarinje crossing while traveling with his son to Đakovica in order to renew documents. The prosecution charged Ristić with committing a war crime against the civilian population in the period from May 7 to May 10, 1999.
