A serious scandal occurred at the European Handball Championship, orchestrated by the Croats.
Despite the fact that the EHF (European Handball Federation) did not allow our neighbors to play songs by the proven Serb-hater Marko Perković Thompson over the loudspeakers, the lyrics of one of his songs were nevertheless heard on Saturday evening in the Swedish city of Malmö.
Because of this, the EHF issued a statement and, in a response to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, emphasized that the Croats had been warned several times not to play Thompson.
- On the day of the match, the Croatian delegation repeatedly requested that the song be played, and the request was rejected every time. The fact that it was eventually played is regrettable and should not have happened. The song does not represent the values this championship stands for at all – the EHF stated.
They added that Thompson’s song “Ako ne znaš što je bilo” was never included in the original match playlist and that all songs on the playlists for all matches were reviewed by the entertainment team and the EHF before the start of the championship.
Aftonbladet also reports that after the match in which Croatia defeated Georgia, “several spectators reacted” to the playing of the controversial song.
Whether this scandal will be repeated during the remainder of the championship remains to be seen.
