Possible nationalization of the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), which is under sanctions by the United States of America, would be contrary to the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Serbia on energy cooperation, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko said in an interview with the RIA Novosti agency.
“The Russian president stated this during the direct line, answering a question on this topic. He said that there is a 2008 agreement on cooperation between Russia and Serbia in the oil and gas sector and that we must also adhere to that agreement. And that is important,” Botsan-Kharchenko said.
As he added, “it is hardly possible to simply impulsively carry out nationalization immediately.”
Botsan-Kharchenko also said that the decision on NIS must be in line with the spirit of relations between Moscow and Belgrade and generally in accordance with the mentioned agreement.
When it comes to military-technical cooperation between Russia and Serbia, the ambassador said that it continues.
“We continue it, we continue. It is ongoing and developing,” Botsan-Kharchenko concluded.
