US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US is considering various options regarding the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is clear that the country must not disintegrate and that there must not be a new conflict.

“We don’t want any divisions there… The last thing we need is another crisis, and we have already made that clear,” Rubio said in a statement to Voice of America, when asked to comment on his earlier statement that “the actions of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik undermine the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and threaten its security and stability.”

The Republika Srpska authorities, led by Dodik, threatening secession, tried to ban the work of state judicial and police institutions on the territory of this entity.

“As for possible next actions, we are considering various options, but what is absolutely clear – regardless of the possible differences that exist here among us, internally – is that this situation (in BiH) must not lead to the disintegration of the country, nor must it lead to a new conflict,” said Rubio.

The Secretary of State said he hopes the US can help “avoid another conflict from starting in Europe.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated on Monday in Sarajevo that the alliance will not allow the hard-won peace in BiH to be threatened and a security vacuum to be created in the country.

“Of course, I am concerned about the security situation, but this is not 1992 and we will not allow the creation of a security vacuum. I know that EUFOR is fully prepared to maintain a stable security environment in BiH. We will not allow the hard-won peace in BiH to be threatened,” said Rutte.
