Vladimir and Miljana Kecmanović, the parents of 14-year-old K.K., who committed a massacre at the “Vladislav Ribnikar” school on May 3, 2023, were found guilty and sentenced today in the Higher Court in Belgrade.

The father of the teenage killer was sentenced to a unified sentence of 14 years and six months in prison, while Miljana was sentenced to three years in prison. Miljana Kecmanović was acquitted of the charge of illegal possession of weapons.

Additionally, Nemanja M., the accused instructor at the shooting range where the teenage killer practiced, was sentenced to one year and three months in prison.

As a reminder, Vladimir Kecmanović is accused of not properly securing the legally owned weapon in his apartment, which allowed their son K.K. to access it, take it to school, and commit the unprecedented crime of killing nine students and a school security guard. He is charged with the crime of endangering public safety, while Miljana is charged with illegal possession of weapons and explosives, as her biological trace was found on one of the casings during the police investigation at the school.

Although they were not initially charged with the crime of child abuse and neglect, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade expanded the indictment in October. According to the indictment, the accused neglected the psychological and emotional state of their child and did not adequately react to the feelings that developed in the child – that he was rejected and unwelcome in the class he attended until the seventh grade at the “Vladislav Ribnikar” elementary school.

The indictment was expanded after the teenage killer, for the first time since May 3, 2023, when he committed the mass murder, was released from the hospital where he was staying and, accompanied by the police, was transported by an ambulance to the building of the Special Court in Belgrade where he testified in the criminal proceedings against his parents.

The prosecution requested 14 years and 11 months in prison for Vladimir Kecmanović, a unified sentence for the crimes of endangering public safety and neglect and abandonment of a child. The prosecutor requested 12 years in prison for Kecmanović for the serious crime against public safety and three years for neglect and abuse of a minor, or a unified sentence of 14 years and 11 months.

For Miljana, the prosecution requested a unified sentence of five years and five months in prison (two and a half years for the crime of illegal production, possession, carrying, and trafficking of weapons and explosives and three for neglect and abuse of a minor), as well as a fine of 500,000 dinars, while for the shooting range instructor Nemanja Marinkovic, a sentence of three years was requested for giving false testimony.
