The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute announced that today fog and low cloudiness with local occurrences of drizzle are expected in most parts of Serbia, except in the hilly and mountainous areas in the south and southwest of Serbia, as well as in the Negotin and Timok regions, where it will be mostly sunny. The wind will be weak and variable across most of the country, while in eastern Serbia it will be weak to moderate from the west and northwest. The highest temperature will range from 3°C in foggy areas to 10°C in the east. What the weather will be like next week

RHMZ states that from Monday stable weather is expected, with occasional sunny intervals and slightly warmer conditions again.

“At the beginning of next week, fog is mostly expected during the morning, evening, and nighttime hours, while during the day, with light to moderate cloudiness, there will occasionally be sunny periods. Stable and warm weather for this time of year will continue, and only on Wednesday, 17 December, is a brief increase in cloudiness expected in some places with light rain.”

When real winter arrives in Serbia

Amateur meteorologist Marko Čubrilo wrote on Facebook that in the coming days it will remain mostly gloomy, cold, and foggy. A brief breaking of the fog is possible around midweek. In the second part of the week, frequent fog and a temperature inversion are expected again, while the end of the year could bring the first real surge of winter.

“Until Wednesday it will remain gloomy and foggy, especially below 800 meters above sea level, with a temperature inversion. The wind will be weak; only in higher mountains and along the coast it will be sunny and warmer. Minimum temperatures from -4 to +3 degrees Celsius. In foggy areas it will be cold with maximums from 0 to +5 degrees Celsius, while in the mountains it will be significantly warmer with maximums from +5 to +15 degrees Celsius, and along the coast in some places up to +20 degrees Celsius.”

A short-term change in weather with the breaking of the fog is possible around Wednesday, when in some places, mainly in the south, there may be light rain. With a strengthening of the southern wind and the dispersal of fog, it would become warmer even in lower areas, with maximums from +4 to +14 degrees Celsius.

Already from Thursday, a strengthening of the anticyclone follows again, so with a static atmosphere there would again be conditions for prolonged persistence of fog and low clouds, and in those areas maximum temperatures would not exceed +5 degrees Celsius.

“Around 22 December, the models still maintain the forecast for a change in synoptic patterns. How it will unfold and at what speed, and whether there is a chance that the arrival of 2026 will be under snow even in the lowlands (for Christmas according to the Gregorian calendar this is currently unlikely), we will have to wait at least five or six more days for the model simulations to become more stable so that the state of the atmosphere at the end of the year can be assessed more realistically. Currently, until around 22 December there is no major change in synoptic patterns, and after that date there is a forecast for a change, but how exactly it will develop remains to be seen.”
