We all well remember the student from Novi Pazar, Nadija Delimeđac, and the student Sava Nikolić from Ćuprija, as well as their joint photos from Kraljevo, and later from Novi Sad, which sparked admiration. However, some moral guardians condemned their photographing when, during a walk to a commemorative gathering on November 1 of this year, imagine – they embraced. At yesterday’s “Us or Them” protest, organized by students of the State University in Novi Pazar, another memorable photo of these two young people was taken.
In the photo published on social networks, we see Nadija with a hijab, pointing her hand toward Sava, who, with his now usual šajkača on his head, also points toward himself, specifically the inscription on the t-shirt he is wearing, which reads “Pazar is the world,” from the new collection launched by DUNP students.

Above this touching scene stands the comment “Photo of the day.”
As a reminder, the two of them first photographed together in April of this year, at a protest in Kraljevo, and the mentioned photo became a symbol of unity, love, harmony, and the students’ struggle for freedom and equality.

A forbidden embrace?
However, the photo of the student from the High Medical School in Ćuprija, Sava Nikolić, in an embrace with the student Nadija Delimeđac from DUNP, which was taken during the walk toward Novi Sad on November 1 of this year, although it depicted an emotional, friendly meeting, caused stormy reactions from a part of the public.
This brave girl, who is of the Islamic faith, wore a hijab on her head then, as she does now, and after the photo went viral, she suffered serious threats from numerous “believers” and “moral guardians.”

Sava then stood in her defense and explained how the embrace occurred, which some members of the Islamic faith interpreted as inappropriate, but also strictly forbidden.
“The embrace from the video that became viral in a short time is nothing more than an indicator of empathy because I saw her crying. Nadija started crying at that moment, I hugged her to comfort her, not knowing that I shouldn’t have done that. After the embrace, she explained to me that she does not hug due to religious rules, because of which I felt extremely bad and realized that I had made a mistake. I am particularly attached to her because of the joint picture that was taken back on April 16 at the protest in Kraljevo, which represents a symbol of love and reconciliation. And in that regard, I do not allow her name, as well as the name of her family, to be mentioned in a bad context,” Sava wrote then.
