The basketball players of Crvena zvezda survived a true thriller in the eighth round of the EuroLeague, where they, as the visiting team in the “Aleksandar Nikolić” Hall, defeated Maccabi with a score of 99:92. The winner was decided in the final minutes, and the red-and-whites registered their sixth straight win.
Maccabi played its recognizable fast-paced game against Zvezda, which brought results on offense but created problems defensively. Zvezda knew exactly how to exploit the porous defense of the Israeli team, led by Miller-McIntyre, who scored 14 points in the first quarter and guided the team that was much better offensively than its rival, especially from long range, creating the initial lead (33:26). The red-and-whites kept the same rhythm until halftime, as Moneke joined Cody, and the difference grew into double digits, remaining stable with complete control by Obradović’s players on both ends of the court (58:48).
Maccabi played stronger after the break and reduced the deficit to four midway through the quarter, but two successful attacks from Miller-McIntyre repelled that surge, restoring a seven-point cushion, which was quickly erased in the fourth quarter. Mistakes by the red-and-whites and Maccabi’s efficient offense turned the game around, giving the Israeli team the lead.

Red Star fans were also pleased to see Butler, the team’s new addition, though it was evident he would need some time to adapt to European basketball.
Maccabi couldn’t have had a worse start, as Zvezda overwhelmed them with three-pointers. Miller-McIntyre and Motiejunas each made two, while Kalinić and Miljenović added one apiece, creating a significant gap between the rivals (18:11). Until Hord quietly asserted himself as Maccabi’s main threat, the Israeli team lacked a true leader, since the red-and-whites successfully neutralized Walker. On the other hand, Cody not only scored but orchestrated the offense brilliantly, dictating the tempo, helping Zvezda reach 33 points in the first ten minutes (33:26).
Unlike the explosive start, the second part of the quarter featured many stoppages, with most points coming from free throws. Zvezda shot 7/8 from the line, while Maccabi hit 11/14.
Cody ignited Moneke, who became the team’s engine on both ends in the second quarter, allowing the lead to grow. Maccabi missed a lot during that stretch, but good offensive rebounding kept them in the game. Once the Belgrade team established balance in that segment, the biggest issue was solved, and the lead hovered around double digits, reaching as high as 14 points.
Both sides still focused more on offense than defense, producing a high-scoring half. Hord continued to be Maccabi’s main weapon, while Brissett and Sorkin contributed solidly, improving the team’s offensive impression compared to the first quarter (22:25). Still, their porous defense was evident, having conceded 58 points in 20 minutes (58:48).
Maccabi raised its intensity, changing the game’s dynamic. Zvezda was no longer as confident and dominant offensively. Again, play was frequently interrupted, and Walker missed the chance to further complicate matters for the rival, converting just one of three free throws in a crucial stretch. However, Hord and Walker made back-to-back threes, reducing the gap to four points (59:63).

Ojeleye responded with a three-pointer, and Miller-McIntyre added two baskets to restore a more comfortable lead, though his team failed to capitalize earlier due to missed free throws and turnovers. That run fended off Maccabi’s push and preserved a six-point advantage, but it didn’t last long (77:71).
Within two minutes of the fourth quarter, Maccabi took the lead (78:77). Zvezda was in trouble as both Kalinić and Moneke played with four fouls, and Nikola fouled out six minutes before the end. Ojeleye stepped up but couldn’t score, then committed his fourth foul, while Clark fouled out.
Cody made two crucial plays — setting up baskets for Moneke and Izuundu, before Ebuka scored again to restore the lead (84:81).
Izuundu played excellently on both ends, scoring from the free-throw line and under the basket before slamming home a dunk off Cody’s assist to make it 94:88 two minutes before the end. Zvezda had some luck, as several of Maccabi’s long-range attempts narrowly missed. In the final minute, Dobrić’s three-pointer seemed to seal the win, though Blatt immediately responded with one of his own. However, there wasn’t enough time for a comeback. Zvezda triumphed 99:92 after Ojeleye’s free throws, securing their sixth consecutive victory.
In the next round, Zvezda will host Panathinaikos, while Maccabi will face Monaco.
