RED STAR DEFEATED THE EUROPEAN CHAMPION: The red-and-whites celebrated against Fenerbahçe without Sferopoulos! (VIDEO)

Red Star’s basketball players defeated Fenerbahçe in Istanbul with a score of 81:86 in the 3rd round of the EuroLeague.

In this way, Red Star recorded its first victory of the new season and, with a score of 1-2, awaits the upcoming double round in the EuroLeague.

Red Star will first host Žalgiris on Tuesday, followed by Real Madrid next Friday.

Fenerbahçe suffered its second loss in the EuroLeague and, after three rounds, has the same record as the red-and-whites.

The red-and-whites were almost written off before visiting the reigning European champion, due to all the recent events in the past few days.

Red Star, which once again played with a depleted roster, was led by interim coach Tomislav Tomović.

The red-and-whites entered the match aggressively and, with excellent defense from the start, gained an advantage that was already double-digit at halftime, 30:43.

Fenerbahçe struggled offensively, and the home team was lucky that Red Star’s three-point shooting was completely off. The red-and-whites went 0-for-8 from beyond the arc, with at least half of those shots being open. Thus, Red Star missed the chance to perhaps decide the winner already by halftime.

Fenerbahçe came out much more aggressively in the second half, the hosts tried to come back, but the red-and-whites repelled every attack.

It was a true trench battle — the excellent Colson kept his team alive with four three-pointers. However, in the final moments, Chima Moneke took the stage and scored the decisive points for Red Star’s victory.

The game dragged on due to a free-throw finish, but in the end, Red Star deservedly celebrated.
