A large protest has begun near the General Staff building in Belgrade, as a response by citizens to last week’s adoption of the Lex Specialis which removes the “cultural heritage” designation from this building.
The students’ plan is for this protest to be a warning protest. A large number of students and citizens are at the intersection of Kneza Miloša and Nemanjina.
The creation of a “living wall” around the General Staff buildings began around 11:15 AM.
Around 11:30 AM, citizens began drawing a red line around these buildings.
Students arrived in front of the General Staff building in several columns, from multiple directions, reported a Beta agency reporter.

Citizens joined them, and banners with the inscriptions “Culture against traitors” and “We won’t give up the General Staff” were displayed in front of the General Staff.
The gathered people are carrying flags of citizens’ assemblies and blowing whistles and horns, and in the protest announcement, they warned that there would be new gatherings if the government does not abandon the announced demolition of the General Staff complex.
It was announced that they will pay tribute to those killed in the collapse of the Novi Sad Railway Station canopy on November 1 last year, with 16 minutes of silence starting at 11:52 AM.
The intersection of Nemanjina and Kneza Miloša Street is currently closed to traffic.
