Serbian boxer Rastko Simić won gold at the European Championship for U-22 and Youth in Yerevan.
In the up to 80 kg category, Rastko Simić defeated Mikhail Usov from Russia on points 4:1 in the fight for the throne and entered the history of this competition.
Simić recorded three victories on his way to the title in Yerevan, one by technical knockout. Rastko Simić also shone with victories in the quarterfinals against Moldovan Anatolie Gavriliuc and in the semifinals against Armenian Hamlet Adamian.
Serbian national team member Marko Pižurica in the up to 92 kg category reached the silver medal at the European Championship in Yerevan with a 0:5 loss to Russian Vladimir Ermakov. Pižurica first defeated Luka Kvirikadze from Georgia in the quarterfinals, then in the semifinals, he achieved a triumph over Moldovan Mirab Drume in the very first round.
Serbian national team members also won three bronze medals: Nikola Bogatinoski (up to 57 kg), Petar Sandić (up to 63.5 kg) in the youth (U19) category, and in the U-22 age group Dimitrij Gorbenko (up to 63.5 kg).
In the youth competition, Serbia was represented by: Nikola Maksimović (up to 51 kg), Filip Stanojević (up to 54 kg), Nikola Bogatinoski (up to 57 kg), Petar Sandić (up to 63.5 kg), Vasilije Đurđević (up to 67 kg), Ognjen Vučićević (up to 75 kg), Đorđe Đorić (up to 80 kg), and Veljko Ristić (up to 86 kg), Kevin Major (up to 92 kg).
The Serbian men’s selection in the age group of competitors under 23 years old was represented in the capital of Armenia by Rastko Simić (up to 80kg), Dmitrij Gorbenko (up to 63.5 kg), Filip Džida (up to 67 kg), Hamza Rašljanin (up to 71 kg), Ahmed Mavrić (up to 75 kg), and Marko Pižurica (up to 92 kg).
The professional staff of the Serbian men’s selection in Yerevan included the youth national team coach Branislav Jovičić, the Cuban coach Jorge Luis Frometa, Milisav Vuk Simić, and Russian Artem Gorbenko.
In the medal count, Serbia has a total of 14 medals at the European Championship in the capital of Armenia (including the Serbian women’s selection), three gold, five silver, and six bronze. In the men’s competition, five medals were won, one gold and one silver, and three bronze.
