What had long been announced finally happened – in Chicago, raids on illegal immigrants began and according to initial data, about 1,000 immigrants were arrested, who were housed in so-called reception centers, which are mostly located in Chicago schools and churches.
In the city that Donald Trump chose as the starting point for his plan for illegal immigrants, a kind of state of siege has prevailed since Sunday, there are far fewer people on the streets, many have hidden in apartments or with relatives, friends, and do not go outside, and it is estimated that there are about 400,000 illegals living in the city.
The beginning of the raid in Chicago was also attended by Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan, who asked Congress to urgently provide them with 100,000 beds for illegal migrants and money for an operation in which millions of illegal immigrants are mentioned.
“Criminals will no longer be able to hide in American schools and churches to avoid arrest,” he said.
Illinois Governor Jay Robert Pricker said he wants violent criminals out of the country, but expressed concern about how the operation is being carried out. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said the city police were not involved in the operation, and called on residents to “know their constitutional rights.”
