Ivan Pavlov from Serbia won a bronze medal at the Paragliding World Championship in the precision landing discipline, adding to last year’s European Championship gold and becoming the third-best in the world in this sport. This remarkable achievement came in a very strong field of 130 pilots from 36 countries, who competed from October 9 to 19 in Alanya, Turkey, at the 13th FAI World Championship.

The Serbian team, consisting of Dejan Valek, Ivan Pavlov, Miloš Timotić, Dragan Popov, and Goran Đurković, led by coach Vojislav Ivanović, secured 5th place as a team out of 36 national teams, while all Serbian pilots individually placed in the top 40 of 130 competitors.

First place was won by Chinese pilot Yang Chen with a result of 7 cm across 12 takeoff and precision landing rounds. Second place went to fellow Chinese pilot Hu Ju with 8 cm, and third place was claimed by Serbia’s Ivan Pavlov with 9 cm. Team-wise, China became the world champion.

In this discipline, the lowest total score is valued, reflecting the pilot’s precision. Ivan’s 9 cm result across 12 rounds means he landed exactly at the target center 4 times, 1 cm off center 5 times, and 2 cm off center 3 times.

Ivan is a multiple national champion and winner of numerous medals at world and European championships, both individually and with the Serbian paragliding team, one of the most decorated aviation teams. All Serbian representatives are Ministry of Sport scholarship holders and classified as top athletes, making this achievement at the world’s premier competition a testament to years of dedication and skill development.

In addition to the Serbian team, Željko Ovuka, General Secretary of the Serbian Aviation Federation and Vice President of the International Paragliding Commission, represented Serbia at the top-tier competition. Appointed by the World Air Sports Federation as Jury President, Ovuka officially opened and closed the championship, chaired competitive meetings, monitored the daily events, and presented recognition to the new world champion and world record holder, Chinese pilot Yang Chen.
