Dragan Marković Palma, the president of the United Serbia party, passed away today at the age of 65, Novosti reports.
Marković was the first mayor of Jagodina. He became mayor in 2008 when Jagodina obtained city status.
From 2008, he was a member of the Serbian Parliament, but due to a conflict of interest, he resigned from that position in September 2011.
After the 2020 elections, he was re-elected as the president of the Jagodina City Assembly.
Marković is also known for his long-standing cooperation with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and its leader Ivica Dačić. He entered political life in 1993 when he founded the Serbian Unity Party with Željko Ražnatović Arkan and Borislav Pelević.
