Captain Saša Mladenović (44), a member of the Niš Police Department, today donated blood for the 100th time, once again confirming that he is rightfully considered the most humane police officer in Serbia. Saša started donating blood at the age of seventeen, making him, by all accounts, the youngest donor to reach 100 donations. Since his high school days, he has regularly, four times a year, come to the Blood Transfusion Center to carry out his humanitarian mission.
“So far, I have donated about 45 liters of blood. I am happy to be healthy and able to help. I am motivated by humanity. I am also a signed donor card holder and a bone marrow donor, so whenever I can, I like to and want to help,” says Mladenović, who is a criminal police inspector at the Niš Police Department.
Saša says he feels good and plans to continue donating blood.
“The feeling is phenomenal, just like the previous 99 times. Yesterday, on Saint Petka’s Day, I celebrated my 44th birthday, so this jubilee has a special significance for me. I will continue to donate blood, God willing; I hope to celebrate the 200th blood donation one day,” says Mladenović.
Saša was not stopped by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, and even in the midst of a state of emergency, at the peak of the fight against this infectious disease, he came to the Blood Transfusion Center to continue his noble mission. He had previously donated leukocytes for a child from Montenegro who had leukemia, and he came to donate blood even before the expiration of the mandatory three-month period between two donations when it was urgent.
He is proud of what he does because he knows that this blood has helped someone in their fight for health or even in their fight for life. In the meantime, he has also motivated his wife to become a voluntary blood donor, so she, despite having three children and an operation, has donated blood 10 times.
“I read somewhere that only three out of 100 people donate blood, and if every fourth citizen did so, there would be enough blood for all the needs of healthcare institutions. Therefore, I appeal to everyone who is healthy and can be a donor to come and donate blood,” says Saša.
