Novak Đoković was defeated in the final of the Masters in Miami by Jakub Menšik, who, by winning the title, made a jump of as many as 30 places and is now the 24th tennis player in the world.
It was not unknown that Đoković is an idol to the young Czech, who after the match repeatedly pointed out that he started playing tennis because of the Serb. On the other hand, Novak returned with extremely beautiful words.

-Yes, Novak Đoković means a lot to me. That’s for sure, that’s all I can say. The emotions will come a little later, but even now I’m starting to realize that this was incredible. The whole week, actually the whole two weeks. My game was getting better and better. To beat Novak tonight in tiebreaks, the feeling is crazy, simply incredible. I watched him growing up. Because of him, in essence, I started playing tennis – said Menšik and added:
-That’s why the feeling is incredible that I had the opportunity to play against him for the second time. To beat him at this tournament, in the final, is something I really dreamed of – to win an ATP tournament, and even better that it’s a Masters… Playing against Novak in the Miami final makes this victory even more special.
He was asked for a comment on Novak’s statement that he is never happy when he loses, but that it is a little easier for him that he lost to him, and whether he can explain the level of respect that Đoković and he have for each other.

-Honestly, I can’t. Of course, after the match when we had the opportunity to talk and when I heard what he told me, I thought: ‘My God, how kind of him’. You can see how incredible a man he is. He is a true champion, because otherwise he would not show such a level of respect, and that is simply incredible. Even with all those titles and everything he has already achieved in this sport, he still plays the finals of the biggest tournaments on the ATP tour. That’s just incredible.
The Czech did not stop with the nice words.
-Playing against him and hearing him say such things about me, that’s confirmation for me why I do this and proof that I’m on the right track, that I’m doing a good job. Of course, I don’t want to repeat myself again, but as I said, I started playing tennis because of him. Playing against him and winning my biggest title so far against him, in the final, that’s just an incredible feeling. It’s incredible how good he is both on and off the court – said Jakub Menšik.
