The New Year’s stalls set up in late December as part of the “New Year’s Bazaar” in front of the National Assembly building, at the site where for months there had been a tent camp with supporters of the authorities (the so-called Ćacilend), were removed overnight, but traffic is still not functioning.
On the street directly in front of the parliament there are no longer any stalls, while some dismantled parts, as well as several tents, have remained on the plateau in front of the Assembly and across the street, near Pionirski Park.
Traffic in that central part of Belgrade had not been restored as of around 7:30 a.m. this morning, because concrete barriers are still in place at all three access points — from Dečanska Street, from Terazije, and from the direction of King Alexander Boulevard, Beta news agency reporter reports.
Pionirski Park, where tents with supporters of the authorities are still located, remains fenced off with metal barriers, and several police vehicles are parked around the Assembly and the park, continuing to secure the area.
Supporters of the authorities occupied Pionirski Park by setting up tents in March last year, and in April they expanded into the street in front of the Assembly, since when traffic in that part of the city has not been functioning.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that traffic would be restored today or tomorrow, and that by the end of January the tents in Pionirski Park should also be removed.
