In several cities across Serbia, “parallel” rallies were held, where on one side, activists close to the ruling party organized rallies “against blockades,” while on the other side, citizen assemblies and students organized gatherings in response to those rallies and in support of the students’ struggle.
According to police data, about 144,000 people attended the rallies of government supporters at 125 locations, while about 5,000 citizens were at 27 “unreported” rallies.
Epicenter of Tensions in Belgrade and Novi Sad
It was particularly tense in Belgrade’s Voždovac district, where police in riot gear pushed back citizens gathered in the park near the Faculty of Political and Organizational Sciences, while a column of SNS supporters passed nearby.

Citizens found themselves in a police cordon, and one of them, Velimir from the Voždovac assembly, stated for N1 that the police are acting selectively.
“I don’t know who we were threatening where we were located; it is obvious that the police are applying selective actions and on the instructions of one man. We do not feel safe,” he stated.
In the Voždovac “column against blockades” was also the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, who on that occasion said that we should “reconcile with our sisters and brothers, for them to understand that the colored revolution has failed, that the people have won, and that now we should all unite and move forward.”
In Novi Sad, the Gendarmerie blocked the Petrovaradin Bridge during the afternoon, and there was also pushing with citizens.

Incidents and Cordons in Other Cities
A similar atmosphere of tension, with police cordons separating the two groups, was also seen in other places.
In Gornji Milanovac, as N1 reported, a woman who was filming the column was hit, while the SNS premises were pelted with eggs.

In Kragujevac and Zrenjanin, police cordons prevented the opposing groups from meeting.
In Čačak, the Gendarmerie also prevented a direct conflict, which ended with the throwing of eggs and bottles.
Many rallies of government supporters were organized with citizens being brought in by buses, who returned home in the same way after the protests ended, N1 reporters reported.
