A large number of citizens and students gathered this evening in front of the Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) building for the student protest titled “Our Right to Know Everything.”
In accordance with decisions made by the plenums of the University of Arts and the University of Belgrade, a peaceful gathering was held in front of the public broadcaster. Since the start of faculty blockades, which have lasted nearly two months, no student has been invited to appear on RTS to explain the reasons for the protests or the details of their demands, which the authorities have yet to fulfill.
The aim of the protest in front of RTS was to once again draw attention to the inadequate reporting by this public media service.
“We don’t have a public broadcaster. We have a media outlet that misuses public funds.”
Professor Ana Martinoli from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) spoke to N1 about RTS’s reporting.
“RTS usurps the concept of a public broadcaster. We don’t have a public broadcaster. We have a media outlet that misuses public funds. This isn’t just about the evening news but about the entire programming of this media house,” said Ana Martinoli.
Citizens and students held 15 minutes of silence, illuminating their phone flashlights to break the media blackout.
