The Serbian community in Chicago and the surrounding area is celebrating! Nikolina Vujcic, an American of Serbian descent, was crowned Miss Illinois USA last night, qualifying her for the Miss USA finals!

Nikolina represented Des Plaines, a Chicago suburb home to a large number of Serbs, at the beauty pageant. She’s 22 years old and recently graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a nursing degree.

A proud first-generation Serbian-American, she’s trilingual in Serbian, Spanish, and English. In her youth, she was very involved in Serbian folk dance at her local Orthodox church, and also pursued dance and cheerleading in high school.

When asked about her biggest passion, Nikolina states:

“My passion is helping children, people, and healthcare. I work as a registered nurse in a pediatric emergency department – at the very hospital where I was born. I’m dedicated to holistic care for children. I also volunteered in France at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, supporting pilgrims.”

And what are her future goals?

“I plan to pursue a Master’s in Nursing Education, then attend Nurse Practitioner school with a focus on fertility care. My dream is to open an inclusive clinic where I can help women have the children they’ve long desired,” our Nikolina concludes.

We wish her good luck in life and her career!
