The Australian Open started as well as one could hope. Olga Danilović won a brilliant match in two sets against Arantxa Rus with 6:4, 6:4 and advanced to the second round of the first Grand Slam of the season.

In a year in which great things and a breakthrough to the top are expected of her, Danilović showed that she is maturing as a player and won an extremely demanding match by playing her best when it mattered most.

She didn’t let her mental game waver, she was ready for all the challenges in this match against the excellent Dutchwoman and unlike in previous years, she showed that she could deliver a blow and win the match in her favor.

The match was played after a rainy day under the hot Melbourne sun, but Olga didn’t show any signs of discomfort and was focused on the game from the first to the last point.

She started the match with a break, but immediately allowed her opponent to return the favor, and so the game entered a phase of nerves, excellent shots, and tactical outsmarting.

As soon as she started playing more aggressively, Danilović took her opponent’s serve again and this time kept it until the end of the first set.

She realized then that she had to attack and dictate the rhythm, but Rus didn’t allow her to break her. However, the seventh game was crucial when the Serbian tennis player, with a spectacular defensive play, managed to win a point that could easily be included in the selection for the best of the tournament and then routinely served twice and secured her passage to the next round.

She celebrated that moment with a loud scream and put the Serbian fans into a trance, and at the end, with a smile and full of emotions, she stood to take pictures with everyone and thank them for their huge support because the audience in the stands was predominantly Serbian.

Now she faces an even bigger challenge against the 21st ranked player in the world, Russian Ludmila Samsonova, whom she has not faced before.

Samsonova triumphed dominantly against her compatriot Kamila Rakhimova with 6:2, 6:4.
