On Wednesday evening, November 12, shortly before 9 p.m., employees of a supermarket on Roxeler Straße in Münster, Germany, prevented a bold theft of home appliances.
Three men, whom the police say are citizens of Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro residing in Münster, attempted to take a washing machine and a combination refrigerator out of the store without paying for them.
According to the police report, it all began when a witness noticed the three men casually leaving the store with a cart carrying a washing machine and bringing the appliance to a small delivery vehicle in the parking lot.
After loading the washing machine, they returned to the entrance hall of the supermarket, placed a combination refrigerator onto a cart, and walked out again – this time without passing through the checkout at all.
The employees were immediately alerted, approached the men in the parking lot, but the men fled on foot, leaving both appliances on the ground.
Just a few minutes later, one of the employees spotted the suspects again nearby and notified the police. Police officers soon found them in a vehicle. During the search, one of them was found with the key to the delivery van, inside which the stolen washing machine was later discovered.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against all three men for attempted theft, and the police continue to investigate whether they may be connected to similar cases in the region.
