Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević announced today that the Serbian electronic toll collection TAG device will begin to be used in Greece, across the entire territory of that country, by July 1.

“We are in the final phase of negotiations with Greece. Two or three weeks ago, I had a meeting with the Greek Minister of Transport, and we conceptually agreed that authorized representatives of both ministries would continue their work, due to some issues the Greeks had, as concessionaires couldn’t reach an agreement. Minister Dimas told me that this problem has been overcome and that the unified TAG will be usable throughout the entire territory of Greece,” she stated.

Sofronijević said that the “Toll for All” toll collection software from Roads of Serbia is highly adaptable, and once an agreement is reached with a country on using a unified TAG, it takes approximately one month for the system to become operational.

“It is expected, though I cannot say with complete certainty, but work is underway for that unified TAG for Greece to become functional by July 1 this year, which would significantly ease things for all our citizens traveling to Greece for vacation,” she added.

She reminded that the Serbian TAG is already used for toll collection in North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Croatia, and added that negotiations are in the final stage with Republika Srpska.

She also mentioned that efforts are being made to reduce waiting times at border crossings.

“Regarding borders and waiting, of course, we all get very annoyed when we wait for several hours in the sun at border crossings. Minister Dimas informed me that since Bulgaria has entered the Schengen Zone, most of the customs officers who were at the Bulgarian border will be transferred to Evzoni, as the largest border crossing between North Macedonia and Greece, where our citizens also arrive. This will enable a faster flow of people and goods,” Sofronijević told Tan‌jug.

She added that the Greeks are also working on expanding the Evzoni crossing.

This is good news for all our citizens who will travel to Greece this summer, Sofronijević emphasized.
