Slađan Trajković has been sentenced in the first instance to 10 years in prison for allegedly committing war crimes in the municipality of Vučitrn during the 1999 conflict.
The court in Priština delivered the first-instance verdict against Trajković today.
Before the sentencing, the judicial panel heard the closing statements from both the defense and the accused, Slađan Trajković.
In his statement, Trajković addressed all points of the indictment. At the beginning, he expressed remorse for the victims but insisted that he did not commit the alleged acts.
Earlier, prosecutor Fljorije Šamoli presented her closing arguments, claiming, among other things, that Trajković, along with several other uniformed individuals, allegedly “participated in the killing of Albanian civilians, with nine of them being burned alive.”
Slađan Trajković was arrested on December 15, 2022, in Kosovska Mitrovica and has been in detention since then.
He was a member of the Kosovo Police and left service on November 5, 2022, when all Serbs from northern Kosovo withdrew from institutions under the authority of the Priština government.
Prior to joining the police, Trajković underwent all security checks by both Priština and international institutions.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office in Priština filed an indictment against Trajković in July 2023 for an alleged war crime against the civilian population in the municipality of Vučitrn during the period of 1998–1999.
