Across the United States, citizens have taken to the streets to protest the military operation in Venezuela and the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

While Venezuelan migrants have had mixed reactions, many Americans are expressing frustration over the potential for war and bloodshed in order to control oil, CNN reports.

Dozens of people gathered in front of the White House, holding banners reading “No war against Venezuela,” “No blood for oil,” and “U.S. out of Latin America,” while demonstrators chanted and waved Venezuelan flags.

In New York, a large number of citizens gathered in Times Square in front of a U.S. Army recruitment office, holding banners against the war in Venezuela.

In Boston, demonstrators chanted “No more blood for oil – get out of Venezuelan soil” and held signs reading “Venezuela is not the problem, the empire is” and “No war against Venezuela,” while local activists condemned the armed attack.

In Minneapolis, people gathered despite very low temperatures, waving the Venezuelan flag and holding banners reading “Free President Maduro.”

A protest was also organized in Atlanta, while demonstrations are scheduled for tonight in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Protests in Europe as well

Several hundred demonstrators gathered in front of the United States embassy in Rome, despite heavy rain, carrying Venezuelan flags and condemning, as they stated, the international crimes of U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. attacks on Venezuela and the arrest of that country’s president, Nicolás Maduro.

“We must mobilize against this coup, which we can call terrorist, being carried out by the United States,” said one of the protesters, Federico Manetti from the communist youth group “Cambiamo Rotta.”

On the banners, as reported by the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, were messages reading “hands off Venezuela” and “free President Maduro immediately.”

Several hundred citizens of France gathered at Place de la République in Paris for a protest in support of the people of Venezuela, following a call by several left-wing parties and collectives, during which an American flag was burned.

The gathering was held just a few hours after the U.S. operation in Caracas during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was arrested.

During the protest, three demonstrators burned an American flag on the pedestal of the monument at Place de la République, while the gathered crowd accompanied it with applause and shouts.

Among the flags carried by the demonstrators were the flags of Venezuela and Palestine.
