The young Rams ace Lazar Đoković made tournament history in the duel against South Florida when he set the record for the most free-throw attempts in a single game — as many as 18 attempts, placing himself in the record books of this competition.
Throughout the tournament, Đoković was one of the most reliable players on his team. In the three games played, he averaged 14 points and 5 rebounds, confirming that he has become a key part of VCU’s rotation and that he is raising the level of his game from match to match.
His performance in the Bahamas will certainly attract additional attention from American media and NBA scouts, while in Serbia it can rightfully be said that another serious candidate for the future national team is emerging.

From Zvezda to American basketball
Before transferring to a bigger club, Lazar Đoković built his career in KK Zemun, where he played for the senior team at just 17 years old and quickly stood out among older teammates. His talent was also recognized in the youth selections of the Serbian national team, where he played at the U18 “Challenger,” confirming that he is among the most promising players of his generation.
In August 2021, he joined the junior ranks of Crvena zvezda, and by April 2022 he signed his first professional contract with the club. In August 2023, Lazar moved to the United States, first to Xavier and then to the VCU Rams, where he immediately stood out as a versatile player capable of covering multiple positions and making an impact on offense. American media particularly highlight his ability to “break down defenses” and his strong decision-making in pick-and-roll situations, making him increasingly notable in the NCAA.
