Many video games can be described as cult classics. Still, Half-Life 2 holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers for several reasons.
First and foremost, it’s an excellent game that was ahead of its time, looked stunning, and, despite announcements, never got an official third part, ending on one of the biggest cliffhangers.
In addition, its predecessor spawned Counter-Strike, a multiplayer game known to anyone who has ever stepped into an internet gaming cafe, and with the second part came the Counter-Strike Source version.
Valve developed the game, and what’s interesting for people from these parts is that the inspiration for many buildings and surroundings was drawn from it because somewhere in there is the Serbian Parliament Building.

More precisely, as some Reddit users recently noticed, the city of Nexus is inspired by the Serbian Parliament Building, which has been known for a long time and mentioned many times.
Namely, Viktor Antonov, the man who created City 17 in which this building is located, is originally from Bulgaria and wanted this city to be inspired by the specific atmosphere of Eastern and Northern Europe.
Therefore, although it is a fictional city, it is based on Sofia, Belgrade, and Saint Petersburg. As some Steam platform users have pointed out, it also has elements reminiscent of Budapest and Riga.
It should be noted that although the game is from 2004, it still holds up well two decades later and is worth exploring and playing if you haven’t already.
The action takes place in a world where aliens have conquered Earth, so it’s interesting to see how the Parliament fits into this atmosphere and imagine which other buildings could belong to this world.
However, we must warn you that if you make it to the end, you will join those who complain and curse that a sequel never came.
