A panel of the Belgrade Court of Appeals has lifted the detention of Miša Bačulov, a member of the Novi Sad City Assembly, who is suspected of “serious criminal offenses aimed at preparing a violent change of the constitutional order,” Tanjug has learned.

The Court of Appeals upheld the appeal filed by Bačulov’s defense attorney and overturned the decision of the Higher Court in Belgrade from November 18, which had ordered Bačulov’s detention.

He had been placed in detention because, as stated in the decision, there was a risk that he would, within a short period of time, repeat the criminal offense he is charged with.

According to an earlier statement by the prosecutor’s office, Bačulov is suspected of having agreed with a doctor from Belgrade at the end of October that he would allegedly be poisoned, for which they intended to accuse the President of the Republic of Serbia and the current state authorities. According to their belief, this would result in mass protests scheduled for November 1 in Novi Sad and lead to large-scale disturbances, which would then result in a coup and a violent change of power in the Republic of Serbia.

He is also accused of coordinating the violence that took place on the evening of November 2, 2025, in front of the National Assembly building, where two public gatherings were being held—one registered and one unregistered—while he was hospitalized at the Clinical Center of Serbia, allegedly using the official mobile phone of KCS employees.
