Scheduled questioning of individuals from relevant institutions, from the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure to other mentioned institutions, to determine responsibility.

According to Politika, at the request of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, the police will today enter the premises of the Novi Sad Institute for the Protection of Monuments, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, as well as Infrastructure Railways, as part of the investigation into the accident in which fourteen people died when a canopy collapsed at the railway station. Among those to be questioned will be Minister Goran Vesic.

According to documents obtained by our editorial office, the Novi Sad Institute for the Protection of Monuments approved only limited work on the canopy, such as replacing glass and tiles, while requests for more serious reconstruction of the structure were not approved. Designers adhered to the set conditions, but static checks of cables and other key structural elements were not included in these works, despite suspicions that the cables were corroded. The police will continue the investigation and questioning of individuals from relevant institutions, from the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure to other mentioned institutions, in order to determine responsibility.

Regarding the tragic event that took place on November 1, 2024, in Novi Sad, when part of the railway station building collapsed, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad announced that the identification of the remaining deceased had been completed, including two male individuals – N.K. (2007), Đ.F. (1971) and five female individuals – M.A. (2008), F.V. (2014), S.F. (2018) and G.R. (1966), K.M. (1948), as well as the injured, including two female individuals – T.M. (2000) and A.R. (2001) and one male individual – V.C. (2006).

“In the course of the actions and measures undertaken so far, the public prosecutor of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad, in cooperation with the Novi Sad Police Administration, conducted an on-site inspection and ordered the necessary expert assessments. In parallel with the expert assessments to be carried out as soon as possible, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad is fully engaged in collecting all information and has ordered that at least twenty individuals be questioned during the day, including those responsible from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, as well as the relevant minister, responsible persons from “Železnice Srbije” AD, responsible persons from the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Novi Sad, as well as other individuals, in order to determine all the essential elements of criminal offenses and criminal liability of individuals, about which the public will be informed in due course,” the statement says.
