The Prosecutor’s Office of the provisional institutions in Prizren announced that 109 people have been arrested on suspicion of vote manipulation in the December 28 elections and have been placed in custody for up to 48 hours.
Most of those detained are members of the vote-counting commissions, accused of criminal offenses including falsifying election results, threats, and giving or receiving bribes related to voting, reports Reporteri.
The operation involved four prosecutors and 200 members of the so-called Kosovo Police.
Prizren Chief Prosecutor Petrit Krieziju stated that the total difference after a repeated recount was 68,017 votes, and that only one polling station showed no signs of vote falsification.
The Central Election Commission in Pristina ordered a full recount of votes for the assembly of the provisional institutions after major discrepancies were found in the number of votes for parliamentary candidates following repeated counts in certain municipalities.
The largest discrepancies were recorded in Prizren. On January 19, the office of the Chief Prosecutor in Pristina announced that it would begin gathering information on possible election abuses in the December 28 vote.
