In Kula, where local elections are scheduled for Sunday, an incident occurred last night when SNS supporters wearing balaclavas attacked students.

Reporter of Nova S television, Sanja Eker, posted a video of the incident on her Instagram account.

The post states that students from the “Mladi Kula” list contacted her and said that their activists were first chased by an unknown vehicle, forced off the road into the countryside, and that people in balaclavas and armed with sticks got out of the vehicle and introduced themselves as police, after which a gunshot was heard.

Mladi Kula immediately informed the police, who at first allegedly did not want to react and told them they could only identify the individuals.

After citizens arrived and put pressure on the police, the attackers were taken in for questioning.

“Around 3:00 a.m., three of our activists were driving around Kula when certain vehicles started following them. They forced them into the countryside and they were attacked,” activist Katarina Petrović told Nova S television.

She added that people in balaclavas, armed with sticks, got out of the vehicles.

“At that moment, a gunshot was also heard. After a few minutes, we confirmed that all our activists were safe and that no one was injured,” Petrović said.

She added that they called the police, after which police officers detained the individuals whom the initiative claims attacked their activists.

According to her, the men presented themselves as members of the Serbian Progressive Party who in Kula guard billboards and banners of the party.

“The people will rebel and no longer want to endure such things, because these kinds of attacks in Kula are happening more and more often and this is classic intimidation ahead of elections,” Petrović said.

She stated that activists and the detained men are currently giving statements to the police.

Footage of the attackers released

Students in Kula announced this morning that they were attacked by people wearing balaclavas and armed with sticks, and that gunshots were heard at one point. After the incident, videos of the attackers also appeared on social networks.

The footage shows two men in a car, allegedly guards of SNS billboards in Kula, whom students claim had previously attacked them. They were being escorted by police, who allowed them to leave the scene.

It is not known whether the Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation against the attackers of the students.

The students stated that the attack happened last night, three hours after midnight.

“Last night around three in the morning, three of our activists were driving around Kula. As you know, members of the Serbian Progressive Party guard billboards and banners of that party in Kula and we have nothing against that. However, certain cars began to follow them and forced them into the countryside, where they were attacked. They managed to call our second team, which was in the office preparing for the election process on Sunday,” said activist of “Mladi Kula,” Katarina Petrović, this morning on TV Nova.

As she further explained, when the second group of activists arrived, armed people wearing balaclavas got out of the vehicles.

“At that moment a gunshot was also heard. We did not know at that moment at whom they were shooting, but after a few minutes we confirmed that our activists were safe and not injured. However, they came out with sticks. We contacted the police, and they had previously introduced themselves as police officers. When the police arrived, they did not want to identify them, that is, they said they could only identify them but could not detain them, despite the fact that shots had been fired at our people.”
