The most beautiful news has arrived for the Marković family from Sopot, whom users of social networks from the USA mocked because of the modest celebration of Saint Nicholas!
Members of the “28. June” foundation visited the family today, from whom they had previously received consent to launch a campaign to collect aid. The six children received New Year’s gift packages, as well as the most wonderful possible news ahead of the holidays – they will soon get a roof over their heads!
– Today we visited the family and saw firsthand that the most urgent need of this family, which currently lives in one room, is to get a real home. We are in the process of purchasing the home that the family chose, but adaptations are needed, which is why we will extend the humanitarian action for another 48 hours – the foundation states.
More than 100 million social network users, let us recall, have so far watched the video of the modest celebration of Saint Nicholas in a Serbian family in Sopot. Nothing would have been controversial if the mentioned video had not reached Americans as well, who began mocking the “poor feast,” choosing their words without restraint given that there was only one fish and a loaf of bread on the table. Soon, however, a turnaround followed, as thousands of users stood up in defense of the children, and in the end even the American from whom it all started spoke out, issuing a public apology to the Marković family. Among those who reacted was also Member of the European Parliament Tomas Frelih, who sent strong words of support to the Marković family.
Telegraf spoke with the father of this family, who was surprised by the reactions.
– Many people contacted us. I live with my wife and six children in an auxiliary part of the house. We have one room and that’s all. A court process with my father is ongoing. Constant harassment. The children are not allowed to go out into the yard, even though I got that part of the house, if it can be called a house, from my mother during their divorce – Milan told us, not hiding that their situation is not easy at all.
