The Prosecutor’s Office of the provisional institutions in Prizren announced that, on suspicion of vote manipulation in the elections held on December 28, 109 people have been arrested and placed in detention for up to 48 hours.
They are mostly members of vote-counting commissions and are charged with criminal offenses of falsifying voting results, making threats, and giving or receiving bribes in connection with voting, Reporteri reported last night.
Four prosecutors and 200 members of the so-called Kosovo police took part in the operation. The Chief Prosecutor in Prizren, Petrit Krieziju, stated that the total difference after repeated recounting amounted to 68,017 votes and that it was determined that only one polling station had no falsification of votes, Tanjug reports.
The Central Election Commission in Pristina ordered a recount of the votes from the elections for the assembly of the provisional institutions, after major discrepancies were established in the number of votes for parliamentary candidates following recounts in certain municipalities.
The largest discrepancy was found in Prizren. The Office of the Chief Prosecutor in Pristina announced on January 19 that it would begin collecting information on possible abuses in the elections held on December 28.
