Former Music Row executive director Martinović passed away at the age of 81.

Martinović spent three decades at CBS/Sony Records.

He worked in sales, marketing, promotion, and management throughout his extensive career in the music industry.

In 1970, he transferred to the CBS office in Atlanta as a sales manager. A year later, he became the director of the company’s branch office in Cincinnati.

In 1979, he was appointed vice president of merchandising for CBS nationally, responsible for advertising, marketing, and promotion of all music on Columbia, Epic, Portrait, CBS Masterworks, and other company-related labels.

In 1989, Majk Martinović was appointed vice president of marketing for Sony Records in Nashville. He designed and managed the marketing of artists such as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Dolly Parton, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, Barbra Streisand, Elvis Costello…

He left the label and formed a partnership with manager Joe Mansfield to form Mansfield-Martinovich Associates from 1994-2002. There, he became a consultant for the Anderson Merchandisers company, which supplied music for Walmart. He planned and oversaw Walmart’s “Country Music Across America Parking Lot Tour”.

He then became a partner in The Consortium group from 2002-2017. In that capacity, he co-managed future Grand Ole Opry star Mindy Barnett and worked on the careers of country stars Marie Osmond, Jason Aldean, and Emerson Drive.

His sons followed in his footsteps. Michael Dimitri Martinović is a manager who has worked with bands such as Good Charlotte, My Morning Jacket, Nada Surf, The Conchords, and Shivaree. Bo Martinović is the senior director of national promotion and artist development at Sony Music Nashville.
