Citizens of Užice blocked the entrance to the city hall building today in protest against the operation of the “Duboko” landfill, demanding the immediate removal of acting director Milan Nenadić, the setting of a deadline for the landfill’s remediation, and accountability from Deputy Mayor Rajko Radosavljević.
The action is part of a broader civil disobedience movement that has been ongoing for several months, initiated due to air pollution caused by the landfill, the civic group “Da ne dišemo Duboko” (Don’t Let Us Breathe Duboko) announced on the social network X, stating that the situation has become unsustainable and calling for urgent measures from local authorities.
Police were present at the protest, and so far there are no reports of incidents or arrests.
Local authorities have not issued a statement regarding today’s blockade.
