Luka Dončić decided to drop 60 points as Miami “suffered” at the hands of the Lakers, who won 134–126.
Dončić scored 60 points (he previously did it against New York in 2022, and only scored more against Atlanta in 2024 when he reached 73), completely overshadowing LeBron James’ triple-double, which also tied the NBA record for most games played.
From tonight, Miami can claim that Dončić scored the most points in franchise history.
Dončić continued a streak rarely seen, leading the Lakers to eight consecutive wins, scoring at least 30 points in each game (44, 35, 31, 51, 30, 36, 40, 60).
For the second time in the last five games, he scored 50 or more points.
Additionally, he had seven rebounds and three assists, hitting 18 of 30 field goal attempts (9/17 from three) and 15 of 19 free throws.
At one point, he simply collapsed on the bench and said:
“Tired as *,” Dončić remarked as he literally “melted” into the seat.
Bam Adebayo led Miami with 28 points, but the team suffered its second consecutive loss. Tyler Herro scored 21 points, while Norman Powell added 20 for the Heat, who had up to a 15-point lead early in the game.
LeBron James did not miss a shot until the start of the fourth quarter, hitting 21 of his last 22 attempts over a stretch longer than seven quarters. The streak began with a basket at the end of the win against Houston on Monday, followed by 13/14 against the Rockets on Wednesday, and opening the Miami game with a perfect 7/7.
However, the main story was Dončić, who scored 39 of his 60 points in the second half. He finished the game 18/30 from the field, 9/17 from three, and 15/19 from the free throw line.
Miami was weakened by the absence of JaMychal Hakeem Jr. (left hip strain) and Andrew Wiggins (toe injury).
