A California court has sentenced a man who broke into the home of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and attacked her husband with a hammer to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. During the trial, a grand jury in San Francisco charged Canadian citizen David DePape with kidnapping, robbery, and the unlawful detention of an elderly person.
Earlier in May, De Pape was convicted on federal charges and sentenced to 30 years in prison, which will now be served concurrently, the BBC reports.

When the police arrived after a call, they found Pelosi and De Pape holding a hammer.
Wanted to Take Hostages Moments after being asked to drop the weapon, De Pape violently struck Pelosi before being taken to the ground by police. In addition to a fractured skull, Pelosi suffered injuries to his hand and wrist. During the federal trial, De Pape admitted that he planned to take Nancy Pelosi hostage and question her on camera.
